I rarely post about my personal life on the blog but today I am going to. Tonight my oldest son will celebrate senior night for the baseball team at his high school. I was asked to make portraits of each of the senior players on the team. I was thrilled to be asked and more excited to actually do it. They are a group of great young men. Andrew is 18 now. He has played baseball for as long as I can remember. We have spent countless hours watching him behind the plate. It’s bitter sweet that tonight we get to walk onto the field with him and be honored along side him. Good job Andrew. Your Mom and I could not be more proud.
Pitchers and catcher report in 12 short days. Bring back the 72 degree weather we had last week. This snow/ice is crazy.

Arizona … that’s right, Surprise, Arizona. Spring training for the Texas Rangers. Hope everyone’s weekend is a home run!

As baseball season approaches, I remembered an image I made last Summer. I wanted to photograph something that captured the essence of youth baseball, something with an all American feel. I found a baseball facility where in the summertime baseball is played almost 12 hours a day, seven days a week. It was a hot August day and the sun was starting to set. I like the grittiness of this particular image and the flare from the sun which helps to capture the dust flying as everyone is in motion.

Last week while the snow was pounding Dallas, Tom and his crew were in Ft. Myers, FL photographing two time World Series Champion Kevin Youkilis for Nantuckett Nectars.

At the end of the shoot, the whole crew had become Red Sox fans and Kevin became a fan of TOM HUSSEY Photography. Fun times – we love our “job”.

Need we say more?

We are in New York this week and we have pennant fever. Aside from photography, we are passionate about sports and can’t wait to watch the Yankees bring it home!

We’re excited about the Championship Series starting tonight. Who’s your team this year?

As the baseball season seems to be quickly coming to a close for the Texas Rangers this year, I am reminded of some of the baseball players that kids should take on as their heros. One of them in particular Tom was fortunate to be able to photograph. Cal Ripkin is a man synonymous with baseball. He is also a man that is kind and considerate. Before Tom photographed Cal Ripkin he went to meet him while he was taking a break in his trailer during a t.v. shoot. Tom found him sitting at a table autographing baseballs, one for everyone on the crew. Thoughtful? Yes. Kind? Beyond words. We need more people in sports that think of others, it was nice to meet one of them. Oh and yes, his eyes are REALLY that blue.
